Infant CranioSacral Therapy

Infant CranioSacral Therapy is a style of infant massage therapy that is appropriate for newborns, infants and children. This very gentle style of massage therapy releases tension and adhesions in the craniosacral system, organs, and connective tissue (fascia) that can cause pain and dysfunction in our body systems.  If left untreated, these restrictions can result in mild to moderate pain patterns, either in childhood, or later in life.

These adhesions can be caused by in-utero malposition of baby, multiple fetuses (causing baby to get stuck in an awkward position as it develops), vacuum extraction, cesarean birth, or other birth trauma.  These adhesions can lead to:

  • Autism
  • ADHD and ADD (can be a contributor)
  • other learning difficulties
  • nursing problems
  • digestive issues
  • colic
  • reflux
  • extreme fussiness
  • sleeping problems
  • breathing difficulties
  • chronic ear infections
  • delayed motor development
  • joint issues
  • asymmetrical use of shoulders or legs
  • arching of back and head
  • malformed or mis-shaped head
  • spinal concerns
  • strabismus (when eyes do not move in synch with each other)
  • sub-occipital strain
  • torticollis (baby can only turn head to one side)

Why would a newborn baby benefit from an Infant CranioSacral Therapy session?

It is safe and powerful to give your newborn baby an Infant CranioSacral Therapy session. This can be preventative, as well as releasing particular conditions as described above.

Why would an older baby or child benefit from a CranioSacral Therapy session?

Infant CranioSacral Therapy is a great tool for helping your child through the many growth milestones they encounter when the use of different muscle groups, new skill acquisition, and growth spurts occur.  Infant CranioSacral Therapy can be helpful in transitioning these types of milestones:

Hand-Eye coordination
Rolling over
Sitting up
Crawling
Walking
Teething

Additionally, tension and adhesions can also arise from other factors, such as falls, injury, surgery, and childhood illnesses.  Infant CranioSacral Therapy can assist in healing from these conditions.

What is an Infant or Child CranioSacral Therapy Session like?

Each session lasts about an hour, and your baby or child will remain clothed during the session.  The child can be held in your lap, placed on a padded treatment table, or the therapist will hold the child.  Older children lie fully clothed on a massage table, with the parent(s) present in the room for their comfort. Most children relax right away, and may even fall asleep during a session. For children under 8 months old I will travel to your home.

“It is as if she is a NEW baby! Not fuzzy; her digestion is so much better!  She is happy!”

“Little Kyle could not turn his head to the right since he was born two weeks ago.  After his Infant CranioSacral Therapy session with Teresa, he can now completely move his head from side to side, without any restriction! Teresa is amazing! We wholeheartedly recommend her.”
